Types of pool covers rollers.

Pool covers rollers are an essential part in looking after your solar cover that is used to roll the pool cover that you have been using. Pool cover rollers make storing them easier and will also help you fold the pool covers that are long and bulky in no time. Here are some of the common types of pool cover rollers:

Manual pool cover rollers

Typically made from either stainless steel, aluminum, or a mixture of both manual rollers are the least expensive type of pool cover roller. They are adjustable to most sizes of pool as they have a central telescopic pole. There is either a crank handle or a wheel on one side so if you want to uncover the pool, you just need to wind the handle, or a wheel and the roller neatly rolls the cover off the water. When you want to close the pool, you can simply just take hold on the edge or cord of the cover and walk with it down to the other end of the pool.

Automatic pool cover rollers

Automatic pool covers rollers are basically manual pool covers with a motor which does the cranking or wheel turning for you. Occasionally, they still have the manually turned handle or wheel as a backup. There are 3 main types of automatic pool covers rollers:

  • Electric Powered
  • Solar Powered
  • Water Powered

Above ground pool cover rollers

Above ground swimming pools also need pool cover and rollers. Above ground pool covers rollers are usually annual, freestanding, height adjustable units, most often with a drop-pin system that mounts the feet in place.

Hidden pool cover rollers

If you have a bigger budget and are concerned with the aesthetics of more standard pool cover rollers than hidden pool cover rollers are a great solution. The roller unit is hidden in a compartment that is buried either in the ground, pool surround, under the pool decking, or behind a water feature. The top of the compartment is usually made from either aluminum or wood and fits completely flush with the pool surround. These pool cover rollers can be either manual or automatic. Some types of hidden pool cover rollers are also track-guided which means that the pool cover is guided by tracks either anchored on the surface of the pool surround or under the pool deck.
