Saltwater pools are ideal for people with allergies, and they do not cause a strong odor of chlorine. Maintaining a saltwater pool is not as intensive as maintaining a regular pool however there are some pool maintenance aspects that are completely different. When cleaning saltwater pools, filter the dirt out while also looking to ensure that the level of water stays balanced. Most homeowners prefer to hire a professional or take a pool maintenance course to attend to their saltwater pool. Here are some tips to maintain your pool.

1.Affirm that the pump and filter are working properly

Saltwater  pool maintenance can be easy when all the swimming pool parts are working properly. Therefore, it is essential to clean up your pump baskets, skimmer and filter to keep them functioning properly. Make sure to check and clean the pool parts on a regular basis, because they can get clogged with debris over time. Low water levels can be a sign that these parts are not working thus it is ideal to clean these items on a weekly basis to prevent buildup. Also clean the generator cell of your pool every few months as it can become scaly from the buildup of salt. Using a plastic tool to scrape it off, or a high-pressure water hose can do the job and also help with the proper circulation of salt throughout the pool.

2. Test chlorine and pH levels consistently

You will need to check and test the level of your pool’s chlorine and pH. with a simple pool test kit. There are some chemical levels that require extra special care in monitoring when using a saltwater chlorinator.

  • Level of chlorine- It is best to maintain chlorine level. If you dwell in warmer conditions, the rays may evaporate more of your pool’s chlorine. Therefore, you must test chlorine levels, which have to be between 70 and 80 ppm. You can also adjust the output settings on our chlorinator control panel.
  • Level of pH- You do not have to be worried about rising pH levels as it is normal in a saltwater pool. Since sodium hydroxide ( a very alkaline substance) is the byproduct of electrolysis pH levels are expected to rise. To control this, ensure that your total alkalinity levels are where they’re supposed to be and use pH down tablets when the pH level is reaching the high points. The level of alkalinity helps to make sure that the pH level stays balanced.
  • Cyanuric acid levels- Cyanuric acid levels rise only when you add more. Maintain cyanuric acid or stabilizer levels from 60 ppm to 80 ppm. With a saltwater chlorinator, you’re consistently generating small amounts of chlorine for your pool which means they require more protection and to properly sanitize the pool.
